Policy Guidelines on Daily Lesson Preparation for the K to 12 Basic Education Program

1. In line with the implementation of Republic Act (RA) No. 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, the Department of Education (DepEd) issues the enclosed Policy Guidelines on Daily Lesson Preparation for the K to 12 Basic Education Program.
2. Planning lessons is fundamental to ensuring the delivery of teaching and learning in schools. These guidelines aim to support teachers in organizing and managing their classes and lessons effectively and efficiently and ensure the achievement of learning outcomes.
3. Furthermore, these guidelines affirm the role of the K to 12 teacher as a facilitator of learning. Preparing for lessons through the Daily Lesson Log (DLL) or Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP) and provides teachers with an opportunity for reflection on what learners need to learn, how learners learn, and how best to facilitate the learning process. These guidelines also aim to empower teachers to carry out quality instruction that recognizes the diversity of learners inside the classroom, is committed to learners’ success, allows the use of varied instructional and formative assessment strategies including the use of information and communications technologies (ICTs), and enables the teacher to guide, mentor, and support learners in developing and assessing their learning across the curriculum.
4. These guidelines will remain in force and in effect unless sooner repealed, amended, or rescinded. All issuances inconsistent with this Order are hereby rescinded.
5. Immediate dissemination of and strict compliance with this Order is directed.

The Department of Education (DepEd) provides these Electronic Class Record (ECR) Templates free for use by all public school teachers. The templates allow for computation of grades consistent with DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015, also known as the
Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education Program.

To ensure sustainability and to minimize technical difficulty, the designed templates were simplified using basic features used in a spreadsheet file. User manuals are also provided to guide teachers on how to use the ECR templates.

Adoption of the Basic Education Research Agenda

         All Others Concerned
  1. The Department of Education (DepEd) adopts the enclosed Basic Education Research Agenda which provides guidance to DepEd and its stakeholders in the conduct of education research and in the utilization of research results to inform the Department’s planning, policy, and program development aligned with its vision, mission, and core values. 
  2. The Research Agenda shall build on gains from existing research, generate new knowledge on priority research areas, focus DepEd’s attention on relevant education issues, and maximize available resources for research within and outside the Department.
  3. All DepEd Orders and other related issuances, rules and regulations, and provisions which are inconsistent with this policy are hereby repealed, rescinded or modified accordingly.
  4. Immediate dissemination of and strict compliance with this Order is directed.

School Calendar for School Year 2017-2018

  1. The School Year 2017-2018 shall formally open on Monday, June 5, 2017 and shall end onFriday, April 6, 2018.  It shall consist of 204 school days inclusive of the five-day In-Service Training and the four days for the Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) conducted every quarter. However, learners are expected to be in school for a total of 195 class days, as shown in Enclosure No. 1. 
  1. Private schools may deviate from this School Calendar. However, they may not start classes earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August, as provided in Republic Act No. 7797 entitled An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred (200) Days to Not More Than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Class Days. Said schools should notify in advance their respective regional offices (ROs) regarding any deviation from the school calendar. 
  1. The Implementing Guidelines on the SY 2017-2018 Calendar of Activities are provided to enable the schools to effectively and efficiently implement the school events and activities. Likewise, the guidelines shall allow the ROs and the schools division offices to provide support to schools, particularly in the areas of instruction and progress monitoring and evaluation. 
  1. Schools may observe national and local celebrations/activities and holidays other than those indicated in Enclosure Nos. 1 and 2, provided that the activities are beneficial to the teaching-learning process, and that the total number of class days shall not be compromised. 
  1. Make-up classes are recommended in lieu of class cancellations due to celebrations and holidays, as well as natural and man-made calamities. Mechanism for the conduct of make-up classes must be agreed upon by school heads and the Parent-Teacher Associations. In this regard, the ROs may issue a regional school calendar to reflect their respective concerns. 
  1. Immediate dissemination of and strict compliance with this Order is directed.
